Saving Strangers: Woman Pays it Forward After Life Saving Heart Surgery as a Child

Updated: Oct 19, 2020

Angie Crouch and Jose Hernandez Jr. from KNBC LA Channel 4 came to Mending Kids office in Burbank just after we arrived from Africa and our Trek to Mt. Kilimanjaro. They wanted to hear my story of bringing awareness to the Congenital Heart Defects to children born around the world and CONNECT those (like me) who have had heart surgery and are connecting with those who need help.

In as much as my surgery was paid for in 1964 by an anonymous donor/s who supported Crippled Children of America, this piece documents the story and my results

Then they heard about Maria Jose and how meeting Mending Kids’ patients in 2009 changed my life, why I volunteer on medical missions and why I chose to train to climb Mt. Kilimanjaro.
